Thesis Title:Technological Evolution and the Interaction between Firms’ Strategies and the External Environment

Research Interests: Manuel is interested in the dynamics behind the evolution of technologies in time and space. In particular, his research seeks to analyse how the interaction of firms’ strategies with the surrounding environment (e.g., other firms, institutions, customers etc.) leads to co-evolutionary phenomena such as the rise and fall of market niches, the spatial concentration of technological capabilities and the emergence of technological bifurcations. To do that he employs both simulation models and quantitative analyses on patent-level databases.
