GUREL Melis Leyal
Melis Leyal Gürel is a second-year PhD student in Management at Luiss Guido Carli, in the Organisation Track. Her research concerns organisational zemblanity in high reliability organisations, referring to the making of unlucky discoveries by design in systems built precisely to prevent them. Leyal examines this primarily in the aviation context, drawing on work in sensemaking, risk and crisis management, organisational culture and control, and organisational design.
Before joining Luiss Guido Carli, she completed a master’s in Psychology of Work and Organisational Well-Being at LUMSA University, with a thesis on the role of international organisations in fostering sustainable innovation. She holds a BA in Psychology and a BSc in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Koç University, alongside a minor in International Relations.
