Program structure<\/h3>\n

The PhD program in Economics is a four-year program which aims to delve into the following research topics: Macroeconomics; Economic Policy; Microeconomics; Econometrics; Analysis of Monetary and Fiscal Policies; Financial Markets and Regulation; Industrial Economics and Competition; Individual Decision-Making under Uncertainty and Behavioral Economics; Business Cycles and Growth Models; Financial Economics.<\/p>\n

Doctoral candidates will attend advanced thematic courses during the first and second years of the PhD program. These courses cover the following broad disciplinary areas: Applied Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, and Finance.<\/p>\n

Advancement to subsequent years is contingent upon passing examinations (at least 90% of the total required credits from the offered courses), active participation in research activities, and presentation of research results.<\/p>\n

Research seminars are periodically organized, during which each doctoral candidate presents their research work to the research community of the Department of Economics and Finance.<\/p>\n

Throughout the PhD program, students actively participate in reading groups, reflecting on economic literature in their chosen research area with the support of PhD Faculty members.<\/p>\n

During the third and fourth years, in addition to developing their research project, doctoral candidates participate in departmental research seminars, PhD workshops, and seminars dedicated to soft skills and research skills. Each doctoral candidate has the opportunity to undertake a research period abroad (visiting period). Additionally, doctoral candidates can participate in other conferences and research seminars\u2014both in Italy and abroad\u2014for the purpose of sharing and comparing their work with the relevant scientific community.<\/p>\n

The “PhD Annual Conference,” featuring internationally renowned invited speakers, is organized every year. The final years of the program are dedicated to refining research work and writing the dissertation.<\/p>\n

The PhD Program in Economics aims to train economists at an international level, capable of advancing knowledge and pushing the frontiers of research in economic disciplines. The program prepares graduates for academic or professional careers in international institutions, central banks, economic policy and regulatory authorities, consultancy firms, and financial institutions.<\/p>\n

The Luiss PhD in Economics seeks to develop talented doctoral candidates who acquire the necessary skills to pursue academic and professional careers in universities, international research institutes, public authorities, central banks, consultancy firms, and financial institutions.<\/p>\n

The main research topics include Macroeconomics, Economic Policy, Microeconomics, Econometrics, Analysis of Monetary and Fiscal Policies, Financial Markets and Regulation, Industrial Economics and Competition, Individual Decision-Making under Uncertainty and Behavioral Economics, Business Cycles and Growth Models, Financial Economics.<\/p>\n

The program’s objective is to prepare students for research activities by offering a diverse yet synergistic and complementary education, enabling them to make significant contributions to the field of economics.<\/p>\n
